Details on the complaints about the appointment process for the position of Commissioner of Official Languages

The Office of the Commissioner of Official Languages has received a number of complaints alleging that the Government did not respect subsection 49(1) of the Official Languages Act during the appointment process for the person who will become Commissioner of Official Languages.

In order to prevent a real or apparent conflict of interest situation from arising, the Interim Commissioner, Ghislaine Saikaley, will not be participating in any matter, discussion or decision relating to the request to investigate this issue. The Office of the Commissioner’s Executive Committee will designate an employee within the organization to determine the admissibility of the complaints and, if necessary, carry out the investigation.
